New Pro Circuit in the Netherlands

Next Events have launched a new pro circuit as a lead-up to the Forexx Women's World Open Squash 2009, which will take place next year in Amsterdam from 20-27 September.

The Forexx Pro Tour Squash 2008-2009 will consist of 10 professional tournaments, all counting towards the World Rankings. The theme of the new circuit will be 'The Road to the Forexx Women's World Open'. The Forexx Pro Tour gives the Dutch men the chance to earn wildcards for next year's Dutch Open, while the women will be competing to earn main draw and qualifying places for the official individual World Championships for women in 2009.

The Forexx Pro Tour Ranking will determine the best Dutch players in the Forexx Pro Tour Squash 2008-2009. The points earned for this (internal) ranking will be based upon the World Ranking points that the Professional Squash Association (PSA) and Women's International Squash Players Association (WISPA) use. Players have to compete in at least half of the tournaments in the Forexx Pro Tour to be eligible for the available wildcards and hold Dutch nationality.

"We have launched the Forexx Pro Tour Squash 2008-2009 to provide the national top players with an opportunity to earn valuable points to climb up the World Rankings with the added bonus of competing for wildcards for the Worlds (women) or the Dutch Open (men)." said promoter Tommy Berden. "On top of that it ensures a long lead-up to the Forexx Women's World Open Squash 2009, which gives us multiple chances to promote this major event."

The first tournament of the new pro circuit will be the Forexx Dutch Open Squash 2008, which begins on September 2nd in the renowned Frans Otten Stadion in Amsterdam. This WISPA Gold championship and PSA 3 star event will be followed a few weeks later by the Pepsi Enschede Open Squash 2008 for the women (26-28 September) and the Turnstone Tilburg Trophy 2008 for the men (3-5 October).

Tribulations d'un Français aux Pays-Bas

D'après le commentaire ci-dessous, il n'a pas encore atteint le top au niveau de la condition physique mais il semble avoir gardé de beaux restes ... Après sa victoire en championnat mercredi, Stéphane Galifi a enchaîné en gagnant le premier tournoi du Wilson Tour aux Pays-Bas où chaque mois se déroulent deux autres circuits sponsorisés par Dunlop et Saxon.



Het starttoernooi van de Wilson tour is traditiegetrouw altijd bij Squash Ede. Ondanks dat het samenviel met de SBN competitiestart was het toernooi goed bezet. Niet alleen in aantal maar ook in sterkte. Zo deden bij de dames A, drie top 10 spelers van Nederland mee en maakte bij de heren A, de Fransman Stephan Galifi zijn rentree. Galifi was de afgelopen 2 jaar geschorst vanwege het overtreden van de dopingregels. Daarnaast deed bij de heren, Rachel Grinham uit Australië mee. Zij is de nummer twee van de Wereld en verblijft in Nederland, sinds de Forexx Dutch Open, in afwachting van de British Open. Zij beschouwt de strijd met de mannen als een goede training en voorbereiding.

Galifi is het niet verleerd

Hij moest twee jaar lijdzaam toekijken vanaf de kant maar afgelopen weekend speelde hij weer voor het eerst een toernooi. De Fransman is vaak in Nederland en combineert dan het spelen in de Eredivisie met Wilson toernooien. Nadat hij in de eerste ronde eenvoudig de kersverse eigenaar van squashcentrum Vorden, Hessel Reekers, had verslagen mocht hij het opnemen tegen de nummer twee van de Wereld bij de dames, Rachel Grinham. Grinham had in de 1e ronde de nr. 15 van Nederland, Pieter Bijen met 3-0 verslagen. Galifi is echter van een andere klasse. De voormalige nr. 37 van de Wereld was te goed voor de kleine Australische speelster en won vrij simpel met 3-0. In de finale was zijn tegenstander Rene Mijs. De nr. 7 van Nederland had de halve finale gewonnen van Frank Hartkoren. Galifi won de finale met 3-0 en liet bij vlagen zijn natuurlijke klasse zien. Toch is hij nog niet op zijn vroegere niveau en is hij nog niet wedstrijdfit. Echter zelfs in deze vorm is hij nog te goed voor de nummer 7 van Nederland.

Kronenmeyer wint

Bij de dames helaas geen finale omdat Margriet Huisman in de halve finale een blessure opliep in haar wedstrijd tegen Cigany Sierveld. Zij won die wedstrijd nog wel op haar tandvlees met 3-2, maar moest daarna opgeven. Karen Kronenmeyer had in de halve finale Milja Dorenbos met 3-0 verslagen. Door de opgave van Huisman won zij dus de titel. De strijd om de derde plaats werd beslecht in het voordeel van Milja Dorenbos.

Tour d'Europe

Du beau monde aux Pays-Bas où le championnat a repris la semaine dernière avec une division d'honneur dames composée de sept équipes de quatre joueuses, celle des hommes comptant huit équipes de trois joueurs. A noter la présence d'un revenant auquel on a attribué un classement 4B en France (équivalent D2 en Belgique) et qui ne semble pas avoir perdu la main. Vous avez certainement reconnu Stéphane Galifi.
